From Dave, our in house movie reviewer…we call him the Low Budget Movie Review Guy. These are quick little reviews so you will not walk away not reading the whole thing for you scan readers out there with Adult Attention Deficit Disorder. The reaason we call him the above is that he generally speaks to movies in three catagories of viewing (short and simple) Its great: See it in full dollar evening.  Its decent:  See it at a matinee for less  Its horrible:  Do not spend money on it. 7 years of college got him somewhere. The only one of these that I have seen is Up In The Air, and I concur completely with his review.  A must see.

I have seen 4 movies lately and here are my opinions….
1) Book of Eli   –Denzel plays, of course, Denzel. Think “Road Warrior” minus vehicles.  Worth seeing, Gary Oldman plays the bad guy, and he makes the movie. A couple of good action scenes.  Very stark, moody washed-out scenery, very atmospheric. Well worth a matinee….
2) Up in the Air — George Clooney is a man’s man.  One of the few hollywood types I could hang out and drink with.  This is a great movie–great supporting performances, very intelligent movie with lots of very subtle things to say about people and the economy and how we all have to deal with the stuff that happens in our lives.  As John Lennon said, “Life is what happens to you when you are planning something else.”  Jay, it reminded me of you in several different ways.  I think anyone who has been laid off should see this (if they can afford to).  I would see this again, I will buy the DVD.
3) When in Rome —- took Diane to see this. It’s a “date movie” some funny lines, ultimately forgettable. Disappointing in that you see very little of Rome, most of the movie takes place in New York City, with only two scenes in Rome. Not terrible, but—-no…..
4) From Paris, with Love –ah, the testosterone movie….John Travolta doing over-the-top John Travolta as only John Travolta can. Plot? We dont need no stinking plot!  Just find bad guys, shoot bad guys, let one bad guy live and follow him to the next group of bad guys and kill them, over and over–awesome!  If you want to see guns, some hot French babes, and things blow up, this is the movie for you.  I could definitely see a sequel or two.  John Rhys-Davis (I think) as the sidekick in this buddy caper is very good, too. Although most of the Paris locations are generic french, it was mindless fun!  (not a movie for “date night”)
Last on my movie tidbits:
I saw a trailer for a new sword-and-sorcery movie. Most of you that know me, know I like those kinds of films generally, even if they are not super-great, “Lord Of The Rings” quality, even those that aren’t on a level of,say, “Conan the Barbarian” .  However, this upcoming movie could be (and John will appreciate this) “interesting”.  It is called “Season of the Witch”  and features that famous, gotta have for any hack-and-slash fantasy, chainmail and helmet wearing, sword slinging, white knight-of the-round table all-around rugged good guy:
Nicolas Cage….what???? What the ^&%$%^?  This could be the worst fantasy/sci-fi movie since the remake of “Planet of the Apes” ….who knows, it may turn out to be a decent flick, but I know what the Vegas over/under line is gonna be on this one….
I am looking forward to Ridley Scott’s and Russell Crowe’s , “Robin Hood” , although my understanding is it occurs before he turns outlaw and hides away in Sherwood Forest with men in tights……
